King Louis was officially arrested on August 13, 1792 and sent to the Temple, which is a fortress in Paris used as a prison. On 21 September, the National Assembly declared France to be a republic and abolished the monarchy(Trials of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette). King Louis was convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers and sentenced to death by the French National Convention, Louis was then executed by guillotine in the Place de la Revolution in Paris (King Louis XVI Executed) . There was a sign of relief to the people of France even though King Louis XVI had inherited this financial crisis from his grandfather. From the people who had seen the head detached from the King's body knew how big of a deal this was that even the King himself walked to the guillotine knowing this was a solution to the eyes of Paris.
For Marie Antoinette, it was not simultaneously where she was killed by the guillotine and receiving no compassion. Nine months after King Louis XVI execution, Marie Antoinette was convicted by the Revolutionary Tribunal of treason to the principles of the revolution, and beheaded on 16 October 1793.
May 9 1794: Madame Elisabeth (Louis XVI's sister), who was imprisoned with the Royal Family and was the only companion of Marie Antoinette’s daughter after her mother was taken to the Conciergerie and then executed, is interrogated by the Revolutionary Tribunal. The next day she is condemned to death as a counterrevolutionary and guillotined (Marie Antoinette).
September 18 1794: The Convention establishes a separation of Church and State when it decrees that it will no longer pay Church salaries or expenses (Marie Antoinette).
